Who we are

Anjali Farms & Lotus Moon Medicinals

Lini and Emmett: VFN Farmer's
Dinner 2005Our small diverse family farm is nestled on a classic 1800's Vermont hill farm with a ten acre slope above the West River in the village of South Londonderry, Vermont. Our community based farm with agritourism as its market niche in the Green Mountains is a challenge, but the rich soil, clean water and great neighbors make it all worthwhile. Our crop diversity and friendliness is our strength, we have a fantastic mix of products easily available throughout the season.

We have been growing Certified Organic heirloom vegetables, culinary and medicinal herbs for eight years. A small flock of galivanting chickens lay eclectic eggs and help us work the land. During the growing season, there are many special events on the farm. Pictured above is Chef Amy Chamberlain of The Perfect Wife Restaurant who hosted "A CHEFS HARVEST" last summer. We also host students of all ages in both the field and our Barn Classroom. We host farm tours, special events, internships and workshops. Last season we hosted over 50 students from two area grade schools on the farm, and will be part of an agricultural education grant project with one returning 6th grade this spring.

We grow 3 acres of mixed annual vegetables, herbs, melons; and 3,000 sq. ft. of bedding plant/greenhouse production. We have established several perennial crops: blueberries, raspberries, apricots, apples, pear, asparagus, rhubarb and strawberries. Last July we added two bee hives to help with pollination as well as for honey. We produce value added products from our produce and herbs.

Anjali Farms offers direct retail sales and education about organic agriculture to the public, both local and out of state. We sell our products through the Farm Stand, Community Supported Agriculture, the West River Farmers' Market, The Brattleboro CO-Op and select restaurants.

Our goal is to raise the highest quality food in harmony with our ecosystem and offer it to our members, neighbors and visitors.

See you on the farm!

Emmett the Grower

Emmett and his wild swarm of
beesI, Emmett Dunbar, have been working in agriculture for ten years. The first four years I worked in Farmers’ Markets, selling for a New York orchard in New York City, then going home to Rhode Island where I created and managed the Aquidneck Growers’ Market. Later I moved to Northern California where I managed Farmers’ Markets, and finally I came to Vermont in 1997 and have been both farming and working in farmers’ market development. I was the Farmer’s Market Coordinator for the Northeast Organic Farming Association of Vermont (NOFA-VT) from 2000 to 2003 where I helped to create the state wide Vermont Farmers’ Market Collective (VFMC). I am a board member of the West River Farmer’s Market.

I hope to actualize a dream of sharing my skills and knowledge of working with plants and growing food with the public through workshops and special events held on the farm year round. I want the customers’ experience of coming to the farm to purchase clean, fresh produce to evolve into harvesting the food themselves through a “you pick” model.
